Thailand is one of my all time favorite places. Rose and I have been researching like crazy and I am getting so excited to go back in October. This time we are visiting Cambodia and Laos, I have been wanting to go there for so long. I keep telling myself once I have been there I can move onto another destination, but I think I will always be stuck on Asia. So much of my heart is there. Thanks Matt for letting me tag along.

I took a letter press course and i loved every second of it.

I bought a rabbit and she was beautiful and then she ran away.

Jackie moved up to number one on the cute scale.

Jasmine and i had a romantic evening for two at the Rendevous hotel. Very Classy.

We learned that there is a whole world of people obsessed with minature trains.

I got to hang out with this little guy for the first time since he was born. Love.

We became a part of the group of people who are obsessed with minature trains.

MACK GOT MARRIED??? And my camera died immediatly.

I flew to Christchurch to catch up wtih the family

I turned Harriet into a mini me.

In other news I just bought a ticket to Thailand....so excited!

Oh my gosh this is one of the cutest things ever. Right now the bidding is about $1500 and you get to name him. Jonelle and i decided we would call him Digby. That was actually one of my number one contenders for a baby name until everyone shamed me out of it. There is something so awkwardly endearing about the way his head is pretty much the same size as his body.

Today i went out for lunch with Cathy. We went to The Herbal Dispensary and had awesome/ healthy food. I had a lentil patty with Raita and a bunch of yummy salads.

After lunch we went to Piko, the health food store that my mum has been going to for as long as i remember. I used to love putting my hands into the sacks of beans. It still smells exaclty as it did when I was a little.

Home Again

Once I arrived in New Zealand one of the first things I did was go down to Dunedin to visit my little brother. It was so surreal to be in a paddock watching a rugby game within 24 hours of being home. I loved the rows of guys standing up by the cars drinking beer. I made dad stand in front of them and i pretended to take a photo of him but i was really taking photos of the beer drinking men.

It is so nice to be home,my parents have moved into the place my dad grew up in. They've made heaps of changes to the inside but it still feels like Grandmas. I love living on the river, so many great memories, and not so great ( charlotte abandoning me in a sinking boat ). It's good to be home.

Well i bought a ticket home...so I will be back in NZ on the 23rd of April, thats this month!!! I can't wait to see everyone, and i will be expecting a visit from those of you who are a little further away.
In other news this guy got an awesome job, I am so proud of him.

Does anyone else find Dolly Parton strangely endearing? Ever since I saw Steel Magnolia I thought she seemed like such a lovely down to earth woman, I think i secretly thought we could be best friends.

The time is 8:50 am and the Tsunami is supposed to come at 11:20. It's kind of crazy around here there is a huge line getting petrol, planes flying all over the place sounding alarms and fire engines telling people to evacuate. Waikiki and Turtle bay have been evacuated, but we are on the point about 40 ft high so we should be fine. Update soon.

V Day

We had such a great Valentines day weekend. I had to work Sunday night on account of the millions of people who wanted to eat at Ola for their special day, so... we decided to celebrate on saturday night. Josh took me to Maharani, the Indian restaurant that i have been pestering him about for months. I was so excited I kept raving about it to everyone for the whole week before hand. When we got there we had to wait for 2 hours to be seated. Josh told me he was on the brink of leaving... they even seated us and then told us they'd made a mistake so we had to wait another half hour.

Maharani was tiny, no more then 10 tables (hence the wait)and so lovely. It reminded me how much I love India and how much I want to go back.

But the food was so worth it! Delicious. Josh got Lamb Vindaloo and I go Chicken Saag (spinach). We got Paratha (my favourite Indian Bread) and Naan as well as Samosas. We didn't even get 1/4 way through our meal before we were totally defeated!

Valentines Day was so lovely, We had such a great time. Food was great. Atmosphere was great. The best part was spending some time with my boy. Maybe the best Valentines day ever.

PS On another note can i just say how excited I am to get back to NZ and back to some of the wonderful food and friends and family i have been missing.

Jess and i took a road trip to Britt's wedding in Colorado, although we asked ourselves many times why we decided to drive we did hit some awesome spots on the way.

Our truck stop was filled with surprises. This vending machine did not live up to what it advertised.

I found these at a random truck stop in Wyoming, i guess they have specially imported New Zealand licorice?? Bizarre.

It's summer out here in Vermont, but it doesn't feel like it. This morning i woke up thinking about summers at home. I am so so excited about the possibility of getting even a bit of a New Zealand summer this year.
Here are some of the things that i think about when i am thinking of summer.

late night walks with mum or alice when it's still light outside
summer concerts
walking everywhere
christmas
going to the beach but not getting in the water because it's to cold
non-stop cricket
Cammock vs everyone waterfights (remember when we got the missionaries and they started to cry?)
sunburn (NZ sun always means sunburn for me)
picnics
BBQs
roadtrips
spending time with the whole family, i can't wait to see everyone, hopefully soon

This past week I have had some really great conversations with my Mum. I miss her a lot. I felt so blessed today when I was talking to her about some of the anxiety I am having about finishing up this degree of mine and she was ready to direct me to the Lord. She has always been a great example of spirituality and perserverance. She is a great woman and so accomplished in so many ways. I am so proud of the success she is having in her work. I am always bewildered at her ability to follow through and achieve all the goals she sets. I wish I had more of that in me right now. Yesterday (NZ Mothers day) I opened an email from her telling each of her children how much she loves us. She is a fearless example of love and goodness. I am so lucky. I love you Mum. I hope you feel the love of your children not just today but every day.

Midnight thoughts

I was awake all night having crazy anxiety!!! It was horrible. It started with feeling stressed about not being able to get all my art work finished (plus do ok in my classes this term and apply for a visa and do a sculpture for one of my teachers to make up when i was sick...). Then it turned into anxiety about the quality of my art, so not only would i only have one piece of art but it would be a crappy piece of art. Then I started to worry about the cohesiveness of the work i have and my ideas. Is my Art show going to look like a mishmash? Then of course, the i'm so tired but i can't sleep, tomorrow i am going to be totally ineffective stress...it goes on and on.
So in an effort to combat the stress I am going to try and have my blog help me to be held accountable. I will try and photograph my art and my progress in all areas and post them. Maybe I can get this done. Pray for me, I really need it.

I walked into the printmaking room and remembered how much I love the process of creating prints. I love the smell of printing ink and working in a process that feels like it could be happening in any time period. I have decided to try and include some prints in my show. Some of you know I have a problem with the application of sunscreen. So today when I was at the beach and all of my friends were applying it generously, I not only rejected the sunscreen, I doused myself in "maui babe". I have made a decision, I am going to steal my bike back. I am going to buy some wire cutters and steal that bike back, and then I am going to spray paint it red so she will never know that i have it.

Today I waited for 15 minutes beside a bike that looks just like mine(which was stolen from MY HOUSE, MY OWN HOUSE!!!!!), I was so prepared to demand that they give it right back to me. The only problem is that my bike looks just like every 3rd bike on campus, and all I really had was a suspicion that it was mine. So when a skinny asian girl came to get it, I knew I was screwed. I asked her a couple of questions and looked at her menacingly. I probably could have convinced her to give it to me but my rage didn't reach that far.

GIVE ME MY BIKE BACK. I really miss her.

Stop what your doing right now and watch this movie.

I loved this movie!! The more I think about it the more I love it. There is something about it that reminded me of Mary. Maybe not Mary herself, but more what is left behind. Maybe just because it's that time of the year, and I miss her. It made me see how we are all bound through her and maybe I am not the only one who feels like there was something I could've done and maybe that feeling never goes away.
This movie is filled with music and love and hate and food and family. It's nice to see something real.
In the months after Mary died Byron would call me in the middle of the night - because I couldn't sleep- and sing me neil young songs until i could. In this movie the guy sings a neil young song as part of his wedding vows. I'm sure everyone has a movie or a moment or a song and it feels like so many parts of it are just for you, and this is mine.
I balled my way through this movie but I loved every minute of it. This movie was for me. Watch it and let me know how you feel about it.

Halloween

So on Halloween Mum, Dad, Sam, Liz and I went on a haunted hayride. Actually Sam, Liz and I went first and afterwards I called mum and dad and insisted they come and do it with us. I knew it was going to be awesome when the ride was just getting started and we passed this little plastic skeleton, this made Mum cry out in terror. As the ride progressed all sorts of things happend. There were people dressed up as ghosts riding horses that surrounded us and rode by really quickly, heaps of really cool costumes, monsters and zombies. Little children asking for a ride, people hanging from trees, a graveyard where things climbed out of the graves and started to walk towards us trying to touch us. All of this was really scarey, especially when the these things really were touching us. Eww!!!! I surprised myself by becoming hysterical when we were approached by scary clowns. I was laughing/crying (chris you may remember this from our camel ride,)really creeped out! But the highlight of the night was being on the ride with mum. She was screaming and crying and throwing herslef all over the place, at one point she was crouched in the fetal position on the ground. Dad and I were holding her entire body for a lot if the time because she was just throwing herself around. When the little children (like 5 year olds) came up and asked for a ride she shouted 'No, Go away!!'. We were the last group for the night so some of the kids towards the end of the ride hopped on the back of the truck and were riding back to the main area with us, Mum showed no mercy, she kept saying, 'Get off!!'. This kid wasn't even in costume, just a sweet little boy in a red T-shirt trying to get a ride home. Hilarious!!!

That was close. It seems that the coke made in America has Caramel color, made of corn, not with wheat as it is elsewhere in the world!!! So I do not have to give up the Coka. What a relief, both for me and all those close to me.

I resent Gluten

So it seems that i have an allergy to Gluten and that is why I have been getting sick these many years!!! I went to the Dr a couple of weeks ago to get tested for everything you can think of, and came back negative for most stuff. He says he can't be sure that I don't have something in the Lupis/Arthritis family, but so far it looks like i don't. Which is great except that i still have pretty horriable joint pain. So we are thinking the culprit is GLUTEN. I am trying out a gluten free diet for a bit to see if there is any improvement, i am hoping there is because i am so tired and unmotivated to be in school or to get out of bed. Coke isn't cutting it anymore (Dad thinks that this is because Coke is filled with Gluten- which horrifically means that Mum and Dad could be right, all of my health problems DO come from coke....in a round about way), i think i need to be well to have more energy.
What is Gluten you may ask. Anything that tastes good, thats what gluten is. Anything you like a lot. So next time you see me I will be thin and hungry, but hopefully functioning like a normal person.
